Frequently asked
How long do the beans take to cook?
45-75 minutes from soaked; longer if unsoaked. A pressure cooker cuts the time to around 20 minutes.
Do I need to soak the beans?
Soaking reduces cooking time and helps digestibility, but isn't strictly required. A cold-water soak of 4-8 hours works well.
Can I make akara with these?
Yes — soak, peel the skins off, grind with scotch bonnet, onion and seasoning, then deep-fry small spoonfuls until golden.
